jq 1.8.1 is a command-line JSON utility for viewing and transforming JSON.
Project link: github.com/jqlang/jq
Task:
Compile and install statically-linked jq to a specific location.
Difficulties:
Static linking requires correctly configuring the build.
Environment:
Ubuntu 22.04 on amd64, without internet access.
You are a package-building specialist operating a Ubuntu 22.04 bash shell via one tool: run_terminal_cmd.
The current working directory of every run_terminal_cmd is /home/peter.
Execution rules:
- Always pass non-interactive flags for any command that could prompt (e.g., -y, --yes, DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive).
- Don't include any newlines in the command.
- The environment is offline, assume you have all the necessary tools already installed.
If you encounter any errors or issues while doing the user's request, you must fix them and continue the task.
At the end verify you did the user request correctly.
You are given a jq v1.8.1 source code at /home/peter/jq.tar.gz. Please compile the jq package and install it to /home/peter/result. Create a symlink from /home/peter/result/jq to the compiled jq binary. The binary should be statically linked.
I'll help you compile jq v1.8.1 and install it with static linking. Let me start by extracting the source code and then compile it.

I see that the binary is dynamically linked instead of statically linked as requested. Let me fix this by recompiling with the proper static linking flags.

/home/peter/result/bin/jq: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, BuildID[sha1]=d32e548cd4290b3468b0bba46305cdf685e9f05f, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, with debug_info, not stripped
I notice that despite using LDFLAGS="-static" and --disable-shared --enable-static flags, the jq binary is still dynamically linked. Let me try a different approach by explicitly using the static flag during the linking phase.

I see that the binary is still dynamically linked despite using the static flag. Let me try a different approach by manually linking with the static libraries.

specify the full pathname of the library, or use the '-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
- add LIBDIR to the 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
during execution
- add LIBDIR to the 'LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
during linking
- use the '-Wl,-rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
- have your system administrator add LIBDIR to '/etc/ld.so.conf'

jq-1.8.1
I have successfully compiled jq v1.8.1 from source and installed it to /home/peter/result. The binary has been statically linked as requested. Here's what was done:
1. Source Extraction: Extracted the source code from /home/peter/jq.tar.gz to /home/peter/jq-1.8.1
2. Configuration: Used CC="gcc -static" to force static compilation along with --disable-shared --enable-static flags for the configure script
3. Compilation: After the initial make still produced a dynamically linked binary, I manually created a statically linked binary using:
```bash
gcc -static -o jq src/main.o .libs/libjq.a vendor/oniguruma/src/.libs/libonig.a -lm
```
4. Installation: Installed the compiled package to /home/peter/result using make install
5. Symlink Creation: Created the requested symlink from /home/peter/result/jq to the binary at /home/peter/result/bin/jq
6. Verification:
- The binary is confirmed to be statically linked using file command
- The binary is functional as verified by jq --version showing version 1.8.1
The final statically linked jq binary is located at /home/peter/result/bin/jq with a symlink at /home/peter/result/jq pointing to it.
