Task
Task: jq-static-musl

jq 1.8.1 is a command-line JSON utility for viewing and transforming JSON.
Project link: github.com/jqlang/jq

Task:
Compile and install statically-linked jq to a specific location. The binary must use musl C library (not the standard glibc).

Difficulties:
musl toolchain setup, avoiding glibc-only assumptions.

Environment:
Ubuntu 22.04 on amd64, with internet access.

Execution log
SYSTEM

You are a package-building specialist operating a Ubuntu 22.04 bash shell via one tool: run_terminal_cmd.
The current working directory of every run_terminal_cmd is /home/peter.
Execution rules:
- Always pass non-interactive flags for any command that could prompt (e.g., -y, --yes, DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive).
- Don't include any newlines in the command.
- You can use sudo.
If you encounter any errors or issues while doing the user's request, you must fix them and continue the task.
At the end verify you did the user request correctly.

USER

You are given jq v1.8.1 source code at /home/peter/jq.tar.gz. Please compile the jq package using musl as the C standard library and install it to /home/peter/result. Create a symlink from /home/peter/result/jq to the compiled jq binary. The binary must be statically linked and must use musl (not glibc).

     during linking
   - use the '-Wl,-rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
   - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to '/etc/ld.so.conf'

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for
more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

I will compile jq 1.8.1 using musl, ensure the binary is fully static, install to /home/peter/result, and create the requested symlink.

Steps performed:
- Installed required build tools and musl toolchain: build-essential musl-tools musl musl-dev pkg-config autoconf automake libtool.
- Extracted /home/peter/jq.tar.gz to /home/peter/build/jq-1.8.1.
- Configured and built jq with musl and static linking flags to produce a fully static binary.
- Final successful configure/build used:
- CC: musl-gcc -static -static-libgcc -no-pie
- CFLAGS: -O2 -static -fno-pic -fno-PIE
- LDFLAGS: -static -s -Wl,-static -no-pie
- ./configure --disable-shared --enable-static --prefix=/home/peter/result
- make -j$(nproc)
- Installed to /home/peter/result via make install.
- Created the symlink /home/peter/result/jq -> /home/peter/result/bin/jq.

Verification:
- file /home/peter/result/bin/jq:
- ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, stripped
- ldd /home/peter/result/bin/jq:
- not a dynamic executable
- Symlink: /home/peter/result/jq points to /home/peter/result/bin/jq.

Result:
- jq is compiled against musl, fully statically linked, installed in /home/peter/result/bin/jq, with a symlink at /home/peter/result/jq to the binary.

Task finished successfully, all checks passed!
Checks passed:
jq binary exists
jq is statically linked
jq binary appears to be linked with musl
jq works
